Learn About Stevens-Johnson Syndrome

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a rare, very serious skin disorder that is most often caused by a reaction to medication. The earliest symptoms are typically flu-like, including fever, sore throat, fatigue and eye irritation.

As the disease progresses, a red or purplish rash often appears on the skin and begins to spread and blister. This rash causes the outer-most layer of skin to die and shed from the body, usually just a matter of days after the rash appears.

SJS cases require immediate medical attention and hospitalization. Treatment focuses on removing the cause, caring for wounds, controlling pain, preventing infection, and minimizing complications as the skin regrows.

Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) is a more advanced, severe, and life-threatening form of SJS. When over 30% of the total body surface area is covered in blisters or significant rash, medical experts identify the reaction as TEN.

TEN is serious and life-threatening. Leading medical experts have stated that TEN carries a mortality rate of 30%-80%.

This alarming mortality rate coupled with the horrible symptoms make this syndrome a nightmare for those who suffer from it. This is just one more reason our team commits so much effort to remain the most trusted Stevens Johnson Syndrome attorneys in the U.S.

Do I Have A Case?

What should I do if I believe I am having an SJS reaction?

Seek medical attention immediately.

Early signs of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome are flu-like symptoms, including fever, sore throat, fatigue, and eye irritation, which can make it difficult to diagnose in its early stages. If you experience a red or purplish rash that blisters and quickly spreads across the skin, see a doctor as soon as possible.

The sooner you pursue legal action, the stronger your case. If you or a loved one are diagnosed with SJS, contact our Stevens Johnson Syndrome attorneys immediately to evaluate your case and help you fight for the financial compensation you deserve.

If I was diagnosed with SJS in the past, can I still pursue legal action?

The statute of limitations on SJS cases varies from state to state, but in many states, it is 2 years after the date of injury (sometimes longer). If you are a minor at the time of injury, in most states the statute of limitations will not begin until you turn 18.

If you’re curious about how the statute of limitations may affect your case, use our free case evaluation tool, or contact our expert Stevens Johnson Syndrome attorneys to discuss your legal options.
